We need to bring back teatime, a quiet time in the
middle of the day to experience a quiet
cup of tea and escape from the bustle of life! (Your Sitka
chiropractor would enjoy such a time again!) Teatime
was good for the mind and spirit and most likely
very good for the body. Most days, most of
us just don’t have time, but just drinking tea on the run in an insulated
mug on the way to your chiropractic appointment at Arctic Chiropractic, Sitka
can be advantageous, especially
if it’s green tea.
BENEFITS OF TEA OVERALL
In China, drinking tea is part of daily life. That’s a pretty good idea! In assessing
the health benefits of tea and its active ingredients for osteoporosis, osteoarthritis,
and rheumatoid arthritis – familiar bone and joint diseases affecting
many people – researchers found that tea has potential anti-COX
(cycolooxygenase) factors and hormone-like effects. They determined
that tea has an immense potential to be helpful in
medicine and healthcare especially as the mechanisms of various tea properties are identified as to their
synergistic mechanisms. (1) Tea from plants around us offers us a
tasty way to be healthier and even a bit painfree!
BENEFITS OF GREEN TEA FOR PAIN
The more information we gather
about what nature offers us via medicinal plants,
the more we must appreciate nature! Green tea is a well-known
beverage sourced from such medicinal plants. Green tea via several pharmacological activities and antinociceptive
effects are proposed to be effective for pain relief because of its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Green tea is described as a safe and often effective treatment for pain management
because if can suppress inflammation
and oxidative stress. (2) Green tea’s major component, EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate),
is described in the published literature as valuable
for its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. Research papers have reported
how green tea helps diseases like neurodegenerative
and cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, and obesity. Green tea and
its EGCG seem to restrain the expression of inflammatory cytokines
and inflammation-linked enzymes. The use of green tea potentially
enhances the quality of life for inflammatory disease patients without severe adverse side-effects. (3) Back pain and its associated
spinal pain conditions like neck pain, arm pain, leg
pain, etc., typically have inflammatory components with them, so adding green tea for its anti-inflammatory benefit may be an advantage.
